The videos you create for your students are SO important and reinforce course content as well as improve student engagement! Providing captions (it's the law) is equally important and at times can be confusing.

Join us for this Accessibility Office Hours to learn basic techniques to create and edit captions for the videos you create using tools such as YouTube, Amara, or 3C Media to provide accurate captions with correct spelling, punctuation and capitalization.

The Accessibility Office Hours offer the opportunity to ask questions and share best practices regarding web, document, and assistive technology accessibility issues. Audience participation is always welcome! These sessions are not recorded, so please join us at the scheduled time.

The Pope Tech Instructor Accessibility Guide for the Canvas LMS platform reviews Canvas pages for potential accessibility errors and prompts content authors with the necessary changes to fix issues.

Powered by the same rules as the WAVE accessibility checker, the Instructor Accessibility Guide helps instructors make changes directly within their Canvas pages to create more accessible content.

The Pope Tech Instructor Guide assists in scaling accessibility support for your institution as this tool identifies the accessibility errors and provides an explanation of what the accessibility error means, why it matters, and how to fix it.

The Instructor Accessibility Guide is made available at no cost to California Community Colleges through the CCC Accessibility Center license.

In this webinar, participants will learn how to:

    • Run the Pope Tech Accessibility Guide on a Canvas page
    • Apply the recommended changes
    • And for Canvas Administrators or Faculty Support Roles - learn how to request Pope Tech Instructor Accessibility Guide for your institution

Please join us live - this webinar will not be recorded. The Accessibility Office Hours offer the opportunity to ask questions and share best practices regarding web, document, and assistive technology accessibility issues. Audience participation is welcome!

With the swift conversion of face to face courses to online and remote format to complete the Spring 2020 terms, some support services to students were missed or incomplete to deliver course content.  As institutions prepare alternatives for Fall term, the bar will be raised to deliver accessible courses.  The Department of Education provided guidance that the expectation is that the institution will meet legal requirements to ensure that there is no discrimination against those with disabilities.

Speakers:

  • Jamie Axelrod, Director, Disability Resources, ADA Coordinator/504 Compliance Officer; Northern Arizona University.
  • Brenda Boyd, Senior Academic Director: Program Services; Quality Matters.
  • John Jones, Director, Media Resources Center; Wichita State University.
  • Cyndi Rowland, Executive Director; WebAIM; National Center on Disability and Access to Education; Utah State University.

The webcast will be recorded and available on the webpage with captions shortly after the live session. If you prefer live captioning during the webcast, please WCET.

We hope by bringing together Ally users from across the state, we will have the opportunity to talk about all things related to accessibility and learn from one another. Our speakers will be covering a wide range of Ally use cases and personal experiences—from success stories on Ally adoption to how it’s being woven into curricula. Please find the updated & complete agenda attached, and feel free to share with your colleagues.
