U. of Florida Tool Automatically Unplugs Students Engaging in Internet Piracy

Now that the Recording Industry Association of America’s list of colleges and universities with file-sharing issues has received plenty of news coverage, it might be worth taking another look at a program that the trade group has promoted as an antipiracy tool.

The University of Florida has developed a program called cGrid that automatically kicks students off the Internet if they are caught connecting to peer-to-peer networks. The software, originally known as Icarus, was developed for commercial release by a company called RedLambda.
