Eligibility Requirements

Only full-time and adjunct faculty whose online courses or proposed online courses meet the following requirements are eligible to apply

  • The course must have been approved for delivery using the developer’s college curriculum peer-review process.
  • At least two-thirds of the instruction must occur online. (Web-enhanced courses, in which most of the instruction occurs in the classroom, are not eligible.)
  • The course must meet Section 508 requirements for accessibility. (In cases where accessible materials cannot be provided online, instructors must have a plan for providing materials to students in the appropriate alternate format when necessary.) See the WebAIM Section 508 Checklist
  • Applicants must certify that they have appropriate copyright permissions for the material in their courses. Courses developed and/or modified under this grant should consist substantially of content created by faculty authors, rather than content from textbook publishers.
  • Existing courses selected for improvement grants must be online and accessible to judges during December and January 2006/2007. If the site is password protected, a username and password must be supplied for the use of the judges. If a web discussion board or chat or a listserv plays a significant role in the course interaction, judges must be provided access to those components or to archived, representative samples. In those cases, applicants should inform affected students that their comments may be seen by the judges. If any student objects to this, their comment, or at least their name and email address, should be deleted.
  • All ten CVC-funded course projects must be online and accessible to judges for final review during late April and May 2007.
  • Courses selected for funding must not have received a previous First, Second or Third Place CVC Online Teaching Website Award. However, recipients of earlier CVC Awards are eligible again this year if they have created other online courses. Individuals who received honorable mention recognition in earlier competitions are also eligible.
  • More than one course may be submitted by a single applicant. But each course must be the subject of a separate application. No applicant may receive funding for more than a single course during 2006-07.
