Deal eases transfers between Calif. CCs and online U

Friday, March 18th, 2005

"The California Community Colleges Chancellor’s Office announced a joint effort with National University to make it easier for students who begin coursework at a community college to transfer to clicks-and-mortar-based National to complete their degrees.

Non-profit National University was founded in 1971 to focus on adult education for a diverse population of nontraditional learners. The school offers 62 graduate and undergraduate degree programs, of which 38 are online programs. It also boasts a large collection of electronic books and journals.

Through the agreement, National and the community colleges are taking steps to make higher education more accessible to diverse Californians. Rural students who are interested in transferring to National will be able to take upper division courses online if a National campus is not accessible.

‘This gives students the power of choice,’ said Mark Drummond, chancellor of the California Community Colleges. ‘The agreement will make it easier for community college students to transfer to National University and will reduce the costs for hundreds of students.’"
